Arvilla Jean (Engle) Levtzow, 86, of Redfield, SD (formerly of Rockham, SD) joined her perfect creator and loving husband in heaven on Saturday, July 13, 2019. A visitation to celebrate her life will be held at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield on Friday, July 19, 2019, from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm and family will be present at that time to accept condolences. Her funeral service will be Saturday, July 20, 2019, at the Redfield United Methodist Church at 2:30 pm. Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord will officiate. After a time for refreshments and fellowship, burial will be at the Grace Cemetery in Rockham, SD. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).
Jean was born on December 18, 1932 in Miller, SD to Lloyd and Gladys Engle. She had 5 siblings (Joyce, Roger, Wayne, Virgil, and Dorothy). Jean married the love of her life, Gayle Levtzow, on November 8, 1954 in Orient, SD. She met Gayle at a dance and became determined to call him her own. They went on to have two children, Linda and Daniel, and raised them on their farm in Rockham, SD. Jean was a stay-at-home mother and farm wife for many years. Later in life, she entered the workforce and held various jobs.
She was an active member of United Methodist Women (UMW). She held office at local, conference, and state levels and attended many UMW conferences. She supported and promoted Heifer International charity and was also very proud of her mission trip to Honduras. She had a tenacious love of Christ and this was evident to most people who encountered her. Her hobbies included spending time with family, bowling, and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Jean is survived by her daughter, Linda Levtzow of Redfield and her son, Daniel “Hype” (Cris) Levtzow of Redfield; five grandchildren: Jennifer (Brett) Barnes of Mount Vernon, SD and their children: Caden and Logan; Kayla Levtzow of Kimball, MN; Brittany (Tyler) Haats of Kenmare, ND; Danielle (Jesse) Polk of Storden, MN and their child Jameson Daniel; and Angel Levtzow of St. Cloud, MN.
She was preceded in death by her husband Gayle; her parents: Lloyd and Gladys Engle; and her siblings: Joyce Newman and Roger, Wayne, Virgil, and Dorothy Engle.
