Cecelia Heer was born January 18, 1920 in rural Doland, SD to Albinus and Mary (Wehland) Heer. She spent her childhood on the family farm south of Doland. Cecelia (Pete to her family) attended country school and worked for other families as a young girl.
Cecelia married Jacob Jay Terpstra on September 24, 1944 in Doland, SD. To this union three children were born, Norma, William and Donald.
Besides raising her children, Cecelia also worked as a farm wife, cook at the Doland School and she worked at the local grocery store.
Cecelia enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, cooking, playing Bingo and cards and making sequin calendars. Her main idea for having a garden was that it had to be big enough so she could share with others. She also needed potatoes to make her famous scalloped potatoes, and beets to make pickled beets. Cecelia was working in her garden the day before her stroke.
Cecelia was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Cecelia is survived by her daughter Norma (David) Hart of Huron, SD, and her son Donald Terpstra of Doland, SD, her granddaughters, Loree Hart of Sioux Falls, SD, and Sarah Terpstra of Aberdeen, SD, and her daughter-in-law, Linda Terpstra of Doland, SD. Cecelia is also survived by her siblings, Clara Heer of Clark, SD, Francis Heer of Doland, SD, and Teresa Bau of Frankfort, SD, along with many nieces and nephews.
Cecelia was preceded in death by her husband Jacob, her son William (Bill) Terpstra, grandson Michael Hart and siblings Anna Heer, Agnes Gereaux, John Heer, Alice Heer, and Mary Lou Stahl.
