David Charles Stulken was born June 23, 1942 in Mobridge, SD to Charles and Vivian (Gould) Stulken. He grew up on the family farm near Selby and attended grade school at Monroe Country School. Dave attended Selby High School, graduating in 1960. He graduated in 1964 from South Dakota State University, earning his Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science.
On August 30, 1964 Dave married Yvonne Schmidt at the First Congregational UCC church in Redfield. Together they lived in Britton, Groton, Clear Lake, and Rapid City, before settling in Redfield with their children Cynthia, Lynette and Brett.
Dave worked in several fields through the years, but his heart never left farming. His tire feed bunk business allowed him to connect with farmers across a seven-state region. He knew his customers well and enjoyed talking about their crops and cattle. Dave also worked in banking, real estate, painting and construction—all jobs that allowed him to connect with people. Dave never met a stranger. A stroke in 2012 forced Dave into retirement but he still enjoyed getting together regularly with family and old friends.
For many years, Dave enjoyed hunting trips to Lemmon, SD and the annual pheasant opener with family in Redfield. He also enjoyed camping in the Black Hills with his family, going to air shows, auction sales and taking cruises with Yvonne. Dave always found peace while driving a country road looking at crops or watching cattle graze the west pasture back home in Selby.
Dave is survived by his wife of 54 years, Yvonne; his daughters: Cynthia (Liam) Muller, Rutland, VT; Lynette (Tim) Rabb, Andover, MN; his son: Brett (Judy) Stulken, Aberdeen, SD; his grandchildren: Mat Lambert, Maggie Lambert, Noah Rabb, Grace Rabb, Carter Stulken, Jacob Stulken and great granddaughter Lyrikah Johnson. Survivors also include his siblings: Terry (Sandy) Stulken, Coleman, SD; Charlie Stulken, Selby, SD; DiAnna (Bob) Lund, Mankato, MN and Don (Caroline) Stulken, Selby.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Vivian Stulken; and his parents-in-law LeRoy and Gladys Schmidt.
