Delvin Robert Sheridan was born June 27, 1949 to Robert and Daisy (DeYoung) Sheridan. He grew up on the family farm north east of Ashton and spent most of his time breaking horses along with his Dad and brother Russell Sheridan. As the last graduating class, he completed his schooling at Brentford High School in 1967.
Delvin married his forever love, Barbara Geuke, June 22, 1974 and they purchased the family farm in 1977. This began his lifelong career in agriculture and livestock. Although he loved farming, his true passion was the livestock. Later in his career he sold purebred angus bulls. He always said his best memories were made in the barn working side by side with his family, and the friends he met along the way. Known to many as the neighborhood vet, he was always willing to help people and their animals no matter what the time.
To Delvin and Barb’s union, three daughters were born; Tonya, Jessica, and Kayla. They all loved being outside with their Dad as he taught them everything he knew. As they all got older, Barb became his fulltime partner on the farm. They worked alongside each other on the farm until Delvin retired due to health problems in 2010. In 2012, they closed the chapter of life on the farm and moved into Redfield, SD. When one door closes, another always opens. After moving into town, he found a new passion in woodworking. He loved making things for his family and couldn’t wait to show others his newest project. Living in town also granted him more time to spend with his grandchildren; each one held a special place in his heart. Their daily visits and phone calls were something he always looked forward to. Family was truly most important to him. He was excited to welcome his first great-grandchild due to arrive in May of 2019.
Delvin is survived by his wife, Barb, of Redfield; daughters Tonya (Darren) O’Daniel, Jessica Sheridan (Jamie Williamson); Kayla (Eric) Understock; grandchildren, Jayde O’Daniel, Ashlyn (Austin) Zens, Ayden Understock, Briggs Williamson; step-grandchildren Shaylee Morris, McKenzie Williamson, and McKayla Williamson; future great-grandchild Baby Zens; sister Alta (James) Smith and sister-in-law Shirley Sheridan.
He was preceded in death by his grandson Triten Heber, his parents Robert and Daisy Sheridan, brother Russell Sheridan, and special uncle Laurence Sheridan.
