Elsie Caroline (Kopplin) Brooker was born February 22, 1927 to Leo and Myrtle (Marzahn) Kopplin, at their farm in Rural Tulare.  She joined an older sister, Marjorie.

Elsie went to country school and High School at Tulare.  During this time, she lived in Tulare with her Aunt Mabel Marzahn.  She had several jobs in town, including working at the Grocery Store and Locker.  She graduated from High School in 1945.

Elsie met the love of her life, Leroy Brooker, when they were both children.  They had a baby girl, Carol Campbell, in 1950 that was put up for adoption.  They got married when Leroy returned from Korea in 1953.  To this union was born 3 additional children:  Paula, Peggy and David.  Just recently Carol reached out and found Elsie, and a wonderful connection was made with the whole family.

Elsie spent most of her adult life as a typical South Dakota farm wife and mother.  She enjoyed gardening, raising chickens and putting up sweet corn in the summer.  Her love of music and the church were huge parts of her life.  She was a talented vocalist and shared this gift in the church choir and as a soloist for weddings and funerals.  She was also very involved in Sisters in Spirit, Methodist Women and the Sunday School.  She was responsible for the Cradle Roll at the church for over 50 years and numerous children received cards from the church because of her efforts.

Elsie enjoyed all four of her grandsons, Jake Ames, Dan Ames, Wyatt Brooker, and Andy Brooker.  All four grandsons got to enjoy Grandma Elsie’s hospitality and her support of their sports and activities.

She and Leroy moved into Tulare in 1996.  She stayed there until March 2017 when she suffered a stroke.  She spent her last years in the Eastern Star Nursing home in Redfield, where she received excellent care.

Elsie was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy; Her sister and brother in-law, Marjorie and Richmond Noble; brother Leland; sisters in law: Elenore (Harry) Throgmorton and Leona (Nick) Spathos; two nephews: Steve Noble and Steve Spathos.

She is survived by her children and their families: Carol Campbell, Grand Junction, CO; Paula (Daryl) Ames, Tulare, SD; Peggy Brooker, Tulare, SD; Dave (Becky) Brooker, Tulare, SD; her grandsons: Jake (Michelle) Ames, Rapid City, SD; Dan Ames, Leadville, CO; Wyatt Brooker, Tulare, SD; Andy Brooker, Tulare, SD; great grandchildren: Haley, Remy and Jacob Ames, Rapid City SD; and many nieces and nephews.
