George Wolf, 89, of Huron, SD and formerly of Doland, SD, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, July 2, 2019, at Sunquest Healthcare Center in Huron.  He had lived his last two and a half years at Sunquest after moving from his home in Doland.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 8, 2019, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield, SD. Reverend Tom Anderson will officiate.  Interment, with military honors, will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Redfield.  Visitation will be Sunday, July 7, 2019, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield with a Scriptural Prayer Service and Rosary at 7:00 p.m.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home. George Wolf was born on a farm in Zeeland, ND on February 14, 1930, to Mathias and Theresa (Zahn) Wolf. He was the fourth of 13 children. He attended grade school in Zeeland and high school at Logan in Clark County, SD. He graduated from Logan High School in 1948. He worked for Leslie Coats of Doland after high school until serving in the United States Marine Corps from 1951-1953. After his honorable discharge, he went back to work for Leslie Coats and renting until he bought the farm in 1969.

He married Virginia Woodring on September 1, 1954. They raised two children: Roslea and Paul. He was a hog farmer and quite successful; winning Master Pork Producers in 1966.  He also won an award for soil conservation. He enjoyed trapping and hunting and guided groups of hunters for many years during Pheasant Hunting Season. After selling the farm in 1979, they moved into Doland. He then opened Wolf General Repair until selling in 2010. He also owned Wolf’s 212 Motel for a few years.

George was a member of the Doland American Legion, Doland Fire Department and served several years on the City Council. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, where he gave communion to the shut-ins. He also enjoyed playing Santa to his great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two children: Roslea (Keith) Dorman of Kennebec, SD and Paul (Lisa) Wolf of Huron, SD; foreign exchange daughter Rossana Rendic Price` of La Serena, Chile: grandchildren: Eva (Steve) Bobeldyke of Huron; Bobbi Jo Wolf and special friend David Peterson of Huron; Sarah Wolf and special friend Chad Almond of Huron; and Erica (Kris) Anderson of Rapid City, SD; as well as four great-granddaughters and four great-grandsons.  He is also survived by his brothers: Anton Wolf of Turner, OR; and Elmer (Lorretta) Wolf of Aberdeen, SD; sisters: Frances Diaz of San Pedro, CA; Sister Teresa Ann Wolf of Watertown, SD; Roselita (Jim) Miller of Santa Ana, CA; and Maxine (Joe) McPherson of St. Paul, MN; sisters-in-law: Angie Wolf of Clark, SD; Wilda Alexander and Doris Harshman, of Gig Harbor, WA; and brother-in-law Lavoy (Wilda) Woodring of Doland, SD; as well as several nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his wife Virginia; his parents Mathias and Theresa Wolf; two infant children: Mary and Thomas; sisters: Angeline Bjorklund, Lillian Tracy, Sister Amanda Wolf; brothers: Daniel, John, and Bill Wolf; brothers-in-law: Bob Diaz, Bill Tracy, Loren Bjorklund; sisters-in-law: Ardyce Woodring Wolf, Lena Wolf and Louise Wolf; and three nephews: George Tracy, Daryl Woodring and Gary Bjorklund.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are kindly preferred.
