Glendon "Glen" Dayton Lutz, 81, of Redfield, SD, passed away Sunday, July 21, 2019, at Avantara Redfield.  His memorial service, with military honors, will be 2:30 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2019, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield.  Reverend Tammy Toepke-Floyd will officiate.  He will be laid to rest with military honors at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, MN.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield. Glendon “Glen” Dayton Lutz was born December 10, 1937, in Grant Township in Washington County, MN to Harry P. and Helen W. (Kotthoff) Lutz.  He grew up in Minnesota and entered the U.S. military at the age of 17.  He proudly served with the U.S. Navy for six years before his honorable discharge. 

On May 11, 1963, Glen married Barbara J. Koel in St. Paul, MN.  They lived in Minnesota and Glen spent his career at the VA Hospital in Fargo, ND where he worked in medical records and housekeeping.  In his spare time, Glen enjoyed spending time with family, fishing, watching western movies and TV shows and crafting with rocks.  He will be remembered for the love he had for his family, his strong patriotism, his wonderful sense of humor and his ability to connect with people through his friendliness and enjoyment for visiting. 

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife Barbara of Redfield; daughter StarAnn (Claude) Hier of Redfield and their children Dillon and Carson; brother Don (Marvel) Lutz of Maplewood, MN; and grandchildren:  Jerry Pollock, Kevin Koel and Jeremy Koel.  He is also survived by his step-grandchildren:  Jonny, Jackie, Kristina, and Clifford as well as many nieces and nephews. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; son Doug A. Lutz; seven sisters; and two brothers.
