Larry LaVern Sell, 78, of Redfield, SD, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Larry was cremated and his memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 18, 2019 at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord will officiate. Larry LaVern Sell was born November 8, 1940 in Wagner, SD to Elmer and Helen (Chytka) Sell. Larry was raised and educated near Armour. Prior to being drafted, he worked as a farmhand in the Armour and Lake Andes areas. He served in the U.S. Army from October 1963 through October 1965 when he was honorable discharged.
On December 28, 1965, Larry married Donna Winters in Miller, SD. To this union, two children, Terry and Vickie, were born. The family made their home on a farm west of Tulare, SD where Larry worked farming the land and raising cattle. He retired in 2003 and they moved to Redfield.
Larry loved spending time with his family; especially watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow. He enjoyed hunting both deer and pheasants; took great pride in his cattle and was happiest when he was busy. He was a proud member of the American Legion.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Donna of Redfield; son Terry Sell of Rapid City, SD; daughter Vickie (Jeff) Schultz of Tulare, SD; grandchildren: Shay Sell of Nebraska; Ashley Sell of Rapid City; Trista Cole of Hitchcock, SD; Derick Schultz of Minneapolis, MN; and Cassie Schultz of Tulare as well as three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Jean Myear, Ed Sell, Shirley Peterman, Sharon Davis, Bob Sell, Linda Clark, Arlene Danielson, and Diane Gotz.
He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
