Loretta Mae was born on May 19, 1943 in rural Faulk County to Herbert Paul and Bernice Francis (Rose) Mager, she was one of nine siblings. Due to advance medical needs, Loretta spent the majority of her childhood in the care of her grandparents, William and Mary (Ehrich) Mager of Redfield where she attended school.

In November 1964, Loretta married William “Bill” Joseph Halstead in Sioux Falls, SD. In March of 1966, Bill and Loretta gave life to their one and only child, a daughter, Cristina “Cris” Kay Halstead.

In 1981, Loretta and Cris moved back to Redfield, to be closer to family, where they have remained since. Loretta worked, and ultimately retired after 24 years, for the State of South Dakota at the Redfield Developmental Center.

Loretta was a care-free, spirited soul, who never took life too seriously! She thoroughly enjoyed playing pranks on and telling jokes to those near and dear to her. She was an avid Bingo player, who also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, coffee at Leo’s, and watching western, action and horror movies. Loretta was also very fond of her sports cars, an IROC Camaro followed by a baby blue Ford Mustang, which only played Elvis radio at very loud decibels!

She is survived by her daughter: Cristina (Daniel) Levtzow of Redfield, SD; five granddaughters: Jennifer (Brett) Barnes, and their two sons, Caden and Logan of Mt. Vernon, SD; Kayla Levtzow of Kimball, MN; Brittany (Tyler) Haats of Kenmare, ND; Danielle (Jesse) Polk and their son Jameson of Storden, MN; and Angel Levtzow of Melrose, MN.  Also surviving are her brothers: Lester (Sharon) Mager of Ramsey, MN; Walt (Gina) Mager of Cerritos, CA; and Kenny (Cheryl) Mager of Spirit Lake, IA.  She is also survived by her sisters: Vivian (Bob) Pope of Florence KY; and Yvonne (Donn) Fetzer of Brookings, SD; and her sister-in-law Laura (Jay) Mager of Las Vegas, NV.

Preceding her in death are her paternal grandparents: William and Mary Mager; maternal grandparents: Thomas and Mabel Rose; her parents: Herbert and Bernice Mager; her brothers: Ronald “Ronnie” Mager and Herbert Mager; and her sister: Virginia Denton.
