Lynn LeRoy Hildebrant was born May 22, 1934 in Crandall, SD to Benjamin and Hope “Jeanette” (House) Hildebrant. He grew up in the Crandall area and graduated from Frederick High School in Frederick, SD. Lynn served with the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Arliss Zeck in 1956 and they lived in Aberdeen while he attended Northern State University. He obtained a teaching degree with a math major and later earned a master’s degree in Education Administration. Lynn primarily taught junior high and high school math classes and spent time teaching in Warner, SD, Gettysburg, SD and Eagle Butte, SD.
He married Madonna Hafner in 1971. They were both teachers in the Eagle Butte School System until they retired to Conde. In his last years, Lynn suffered from dementia, but that did not prevent former students from making a special stop in Conde to thank him for the excellent math instruction they had received from “Mr. Hildebrant.”
His passion was used cars, especially Cadillacs, and he had quite a collection. He could not let a good deal pass him by. He would polish and shine these deals and drive them for many years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the Crandall area. He was a giving man who would help anyone. Growing up in the depression instilled values of self-sufficiency, compassion and frugality.
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Madonna of Conde; children: Randy (Dodie) Hildebrant of Rapid City, SD; Anthony Hildebrant of Conde; Patrice Williams of Lincoln, ND; and Benjamin (CaCee) Hildebrant of Mitchell, SD; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law: Bernadine Hildebrant of Waterville, MN; Eunice Hildebrant of Granada Hills, CA; Betty Hildebrant of Vestal, NY and Norma Hildebrant of Moodys, OK.
He is preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Glen Hildebrant, Ben (Alice) Hildebrant, Dean (Pauline) Hildebrant, Eugene Hildebrant, Richard Hildebrant and Loren (Beatrice) Hildebrant.
