Marcella Elizabeth Radtke

July 8, 1923 ~ May 31, 2019 (age 95)


Marcella Elizabeth (Harms) Radtke of Redfield, SD passed away quietly on Friday, May 31, 2019 at Redfield Care and Rehabilitation Center. A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Her cremains will be interred at the Veteran’s Cemetery in Phoenix, AZ.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (

Marcella was born July 8, 1923 in rural Spink County to Ernest and Vera (Cockrell) Harms. She spent her childhood on the family farm near Hitchcock. She attended a rural county school through the 8th grade. Marcella graduated from Redfield High School. She earned a 1 through 8 teaching certificate from Northern State Teacher College and briefly taught at a country school.

Marcella married William Radtke on March 24, 1946 in Redfield. To this union three children were born.

Through her life Marcella enjoyed a wide range of activities and hobbies including hunting, fishing, clamming, rock hounding, card and board games, crafts and sewing to name a few. She was enthusiastic in her various occupations and adventures. She was active in the VFW Auxiliary in Redfield.

Marcella spent many years in South Dakota, Washington, and Arizona. Her gentle, fun loving spirit will be greatly missed by so many family and friends.

Marcella is survived by her three sons, Ronald (Donna Nevitt) Radtke of Anacortes, WA, Terry (Rose Mary Miller) Radtke of Mayfield, KY, and Debry (Bonita Dahl) Radtke of Redfield. She is also survived by sister Viola (Mervin) Stormo, sister-in-law Jo Harms, five grandchildren, Shana Radtke, Dawn Radtke, Trina Goodell, Seth Radtke and Jo Clements, seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Kenneth and Edgar, sisters Lila and Dianna.
