Mark Charles Muellenberg

September 28, 1958 ~ July 23, 2019 (age 60)

Mark Charles Muellenberg, 60, of Rockham, SD, passed away Tuesday, July 23, 2019, in Hand County, SD.  His funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Redfield, SD.  Reverends Brian Jones and Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate.  Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. 

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 - 2:00 p.m., at the church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com). 

Mark Charles Muellenberg was born in Redfield, SD on September 28, 1958, to Gordon and Madonna (Littel) Muellenberg.  Mark was raised on a farm in Zell, SD and attended high school in Redfield.  He then went on to attend Lake Area Technical Institute in Watertown, SD for two years and received honors for the highest-grade point average. 

On June 2, 1978, Mark married Sheila Stapp.  Sheila and Mark took a liking to each other in the sixth grade and were married for 41 years.  They had an everlasting love for each other.  Sheila and Mark moved to Pierre, SD where Mark worked for Cone-Ag Services for a year.  They then went into farming with Sheila’s grandparents and parents:  Ted and Tillie Stapp and LeRoy and Ginny Stapp.  Mark worked diligently with LeRoy working cattle and farming.  Over time, Mark grew his own farming and ranching business. 

Mark served on numerous committees and boards:  Rockham Elevator, United Methodist Church, Cottonwood Lake Association, and Linn Township Board.  He was awarded Hand County Producer of the Year and SD Charolais Commercial Producer of the Year.  Mark was very well respected in his community as an outstanding cattleman and farmer.

Mark and Sheila have two daughters, Heidi and Heather, who currently live and work in Redfield.  He loved watching his girls in sports and they shared a love for horses, animals, and hunting.  Mark loved his family and so enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.  He enjoyed water sports, hunting, horseback riding, and his pets.  People who knew Mark thought he was a kind and gentle soul.

Mark is survived by his wife Sheila; two daughters:  Heidi (Gabe) Gehrke and Heather (Christopher) Rude; and father Gordon (Sharon Richmond) Muellenberg.  He is also survived by his sisters:  Lori Muellenberg and Lisa Muellenberg; grandchildren:  Tillie Marie Gehrke, Jack Charles Gehrke, Ella Rae Rude, Brody James Rude, and Grady Mark Rude; and father-in-law LeRoy Stapp.

He is preceded in death by his mother Madonna Muellenberg; sisters:  Leah Muellenberg and Lynette Muellenberg; and mother-in-law Ginny Stapp.
