Ada Rae Christman, 80, of Ashton, SD, died Tuesday, July 08, 2014 in Ashton. Ada Rae was cremated and her memorial service will be Saturday, July 12, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Pastor Gary Compton will officiate. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Ada Rae was born December 30, 1933 in Redfield to William and Emma (Ochsle) Compton. She grew up in Redfield and attended Redfield Public Schools. Ada Rae married John Christman on May 27, 1950 in Huron. They lived in Nebraska and Idaho until John died in 1983. Ada Rae moved to Redfield in 1983 and started working at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield. She worked as a dorm parent for twelve years.

Ada Rae enjoyed reading, sewing, playing cards, playing bingo, watching RFD TV and collecting bells.

Ada Rae is survived by her children: Loretta Ward of Pinehurst, ID; David Christman of Sioux Falls; Larry Christman of Ashton; Terry (Stan) Christensen of Ashton; John Christman of Redfield; Peggy Kellar of Ashton; and Kyle Christman of Ashton, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Ruth Schroeder of Wanakee, WI; Phyllis (Kenny) Pribble of Redfield; Shirley (Art) Solheim of Frankfort, SD; Bill (Kathryn) Compton of Wichita, KS and Robert Compton of Pierre, SD.

She was preceded in death by her husband John in 1983, her son Russell and three sisters: Mary, Betty and Alice.
