Obituary

Albert L. Benning, 80, of Tulare, SD, died Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller, SD. His funeral will be Saturday, September 11, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at the Wesleyan Church in Redfield. Reverend Josh Kendrick will officiate. After a time for lunch and fellowship the burial will be in the Burdette Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 1-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Albert Lewis Benning was born May 27, 1930 in Newell, SD to D. Dale and Rena (Sisson) Benning. Albert and Darlene Orrock were married January 18, 1952 in Redfield. Albert served in the United States Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. Before their retirement, Albert and Darlene spent fifteen years traveling the country as over-the-road truck drivers.

Albert was a life-long member of the Wheaton United Church of Christ until it closed, at which time he began worshipping at the Redfield Wesleyan Church. He loved living in the country and spending time with his family.

Albert is survived by his wife Darlene of Tulare; two daughters: Kathy (Dave) Holland of Stewartville, MN; and Beth (Richard) Rasche of Fairmont, MN; six grandchildren: Curt (Becky) Holland of Fairmont, MN; Brent (Kim) Holland of Morris, MN; Adam Rasche of Minneapolis, MN; Kaylene Holland of Brookings, SD; Jared Holland of Charlotte, NC; and Jake Rasche of Mankato, MN; and four great grandchildren: Aerial Wenzel, Anthony Holland, Isabelle Holland and Aubrey Holland. He is also survived by his sister Charlotte Wernsman of Casper, WY; his brothers: Verland (Lucille) Benning of Long Barn, CA; and Kenneth (Yvonne) Benning of Casa Grande, AZ; brother-in-law Dennis (Janice) Orrock of Lockford, CA; sisters-in-law: Joyce (Bill) Crow of Lodi, CA; and Lois Howard of Tulare, SD; and along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Lowel (Tiny) and Clayton and one nephew Tim.
