Alice
Bacon
May 15, 1928 – December 3, 2023
Alice Ruth Bacon was born in Redfield, SD, on May 15, 1928, the youngest of six children to Etta and Earl Bacon. She attended school in Redfield, became an accomplished pianist and cellist, and graduated in 1946. Following graduation, she enrolled in a secretarial course and worked briefly in Sioux Falls, SD. After moving back to Redfield, she worked for the local telephone company and was the organist for the Congregational Church until she moved to Lebanon, OR, with her mother and sister Margaret in 1962.
On arrival in Lebanon, Alice was employed by Champion Lumber Mill for many years until her retirement. Alice had two loves: animals (especially cats, dogs, and birds) and music. She participated in the Lebanon Community Chorus and The Sweet Adelines, singing soprano. She also accompanied the Willamette Boys Choir and the Mid Valley Girls' Choir.
Alice was a member of The First Presbyterian Church. She served her church very well as an elder, a member of the Ladies Guild, a member of the choir, and as the organist.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and all her siblings.
Her last few years were spent comfortably at the Willamette Manor Assisted Living home in Lebanon, where she passed peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2023. A graveside service will be held at a later date at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield has been entrusted with arrangements (www.hykefuneralhome.com).
