Obituary

Alice Iona (Binger) MacNeill, 96, of Tulare, SD, died Friday, November 22, 2024, at Avantara in Huron, SD.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 4, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD.  The family will be present to accept condolences.  A time of sharing will follow at 6:30 p.m.

Alice's funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 5, at Tulare United Church in Tulare.  Pastor Rey Colón will officiate.  Burial will take place at St. John's Cemetery in rural Tulare after the service.  Lunch will then be served in the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials.

Alice Iona Binger was born on November 29, 1927, on the family farm northeast of Tulare, SD, to Clarence and Iona (Root) Binger. She attended grade school and high school at Tulare and graduated from Tulare High School in 1945.

On June 8, 1945, she married Bruce MacNeill of rural Tulare on his folk's farm. She worked at Foglesong Hardware in Tulare while Bruce was in the service. After his discharge from the army, they moved to his grandparent's farm and farmed with his Dad.

Alice was a member of the Tulare United Church in Tulare, formerly St. John's UCC in rural Tulare. She sang in the church choir and was a Sunday School teacher,  Bible School teacher, and belonged to the Ladies Guild. She was also a member of the Tulare Lions Club and the Tulare American Legion Auxiliary. She bowled in a league in Redfield for many years. Alice liked to hunt and fish with her family and watch the Minnesota Twins baseball games. She also enjoyed gardening, canning, and making rugs. She was known for her award-winning apple pies.

Alice is survived by her children:  Jeanette (Lyle) Kleinsasser of Iroquois, SD; Deanne Ness of Huron, SD; Brian (Kristine) MacNeill of Newport, OR; and Colleen (Dale) Kightlinger of Onamia, MN; and daughter-in-law Kay MacNeill of Sebring, FL. She is also survived by 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law:  Carolyn Antoine of Madelia, MN; and Mikki Permann of Redfield, SD; plus a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bruce; parents; son Lynn MacNeill; son-in-law Lyle Ness; granddaughter-in-law Ann Ogino-MacNeill; great-grandson Aiden Ness; brother Harvey (Florice); sisters: Ruby (Eugene) Meyer; Maxine (Hugh "Doc") Boyd; Della Belle (Jerry) Binger; and Marlene (Leon) Walton; and brothers-in-law:  Dr. Charles (Patty) MacNeill; Deane Antoine; and Kurt Permann.
