Alicia Mary (O'Connor) Van Houten, 101, of Redfield, SD passed away Thursday, February 24, 2022, at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, February 28 at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. A scriptural prayer service, rosary, and time of sharing will begin at 7:00 p.m.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 1, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield with Reverend John Short officiating. Interment will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Redfield.

Alicia was born on February 12, 1921, to Emmet and Mayme (Humphrey) O'Connor on a farm near Athol, SD. She graduated from Athol High School in 1938.
She married Berton Van Houten in 1941. They lived in Northville and Rapid City, SD until he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1943. She and her children moved to Athol and lived with her parents until July 1945 when he returned from the service.
They bought a house in Athol where they lived for 25 years. Alicia helped at the Athol School. In 1970, they moved to Hopkins, MN where she worked at JCPenney in the Edina Mall until she retired.
In 1980, they moved back to Redfield and spent their winter months in Arizona and California. Alicia moved into the Eastern Star Assisted Living in 2018.
Alicia is survived by her children: Veronica Kraus of Athol; George (Beverly) Van Houten of Bloomington, MN; and Gloria (Mick) Stammer of Rancho Mission Viejo, CA. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Deb (Russ) Christensen, Lori (Jeff) Flinn, Jason Van Houten, Taunia (Tom) Higgins, Tami (Kevin) Davis, and Brad (Char) Stammer; 10 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband in 1999; her parents; sister Agnes (Earl) Ames; brothers: Cletus (Midge) O'Connor, and Ally (Eunice) O'Connor; son-in-law Donald "Buzz" Kraus; nephews: Joe Ames, Lawrence Ames, Mike O'Connor, Larry Gerlach, and Jim Deuchar; and niece Marlene Waldron.
