Aliene Marian (Fleming) Lemmer, 87, of Yankton, SD and formerly of Redfield, SD, died peacefully on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at Avera Sacred Heart Majestic Bluffs in Yankton. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 17, 2018. Reverend Tom Anderson will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Catholic Cemetery in Redfield.
Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. Family will be present during this time. A Scriptural Wake Service with Rosary will follow at 7:00 p.m. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).
Aliene Marian Fleming was born on December 22, 1930 in Redfield to Ray and Nellie (Conley) Fleming. She attended rural country schools near Redfield and Altamont, SD. She graduated from Redfield Public High School in 1948, and attended Rochester Junior College. She married George T. Lemmer, Jr. in 1950 at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Redfield. In addition to her roles as wife and mother, Aliene worked as a medical secretary at the Huron Clinic and at hospitals in Aberdeen and Redfield.
She was an active member of the GGG Extension Club in Groveland Township and the Catholic Daughters, serving in the latter as SD State Secretary in 1982. She enjoyed reading and watching the Twins. She was known for her sewing, poetry composition, and cooking skills.
Aliene is survived by her husband, George of Yankton; four sons: Paul (Rosanne) of Redfield, SD, David of Ft. Pierre, SD, James (Diana) of Oshkosh, WI, Steve (Tamara) of Norwood, MN; and four daughters: Sister Corinne, OSB of Yankton, SD, Mary (Larew) Goehring of Aberdeen, SD, Christine of Mitchell, SD, and Teresa (Peter) Hassing of Wells, MN. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Patricia Sage; and her infant brother, Norman.
