Ardith Turner, 90, of Watertown, SD, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at Deuel County Good Samaritan Center in Clear Lake. Her funeral will be Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Deacon John Baker will officiate. Burial will be in the Ashton Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Ardith was born October 12, 1921 in Ashton, SD to Solon and Nettie (McCart) Turner. She grew up in Ashton until 1950 when she moved to South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield. She lived at the State School until 1978 when she moved to ATCO in Watertown.
Ardith loved making crafts, watching movies, painting, shopping and going on trips. She was a very social person and enjoyed spending time with staff, friends and family. Her hobbies included collecting jewelry and dolls. Ardith was involved with Special Olympics for many years and won several medals.
Ardith is survived by two nieces: Nancy (John) Baker of Waterloo, IA; and Judy (Bob) Coyle of Watertown; three nephews: Jerry (Darlene) Wiles of Sarasota, FL; Jim (Lucille) Wiles and Jack (Joyce) Wiles of Sioux Falls, SD; a sister-in-law, Mabel Turner and all her friends at ATCO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jack Turner, her sister and brother-in-law Grace and Ray Wiles and a niece Sharie Hatlestad.
