Arlene Esther Mowry, 94, of Ellendale, ND, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Prince of Peace Care Center in Ellendale.

Her funeral service will be Thursday, July 14, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD. Reverend Peter M. Utecht will officiate. Burial will follow in the Rockham Cemetery.

Visitation will be Thursday, prior to the service, from 9:00 a.m. - 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home. Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. (www.thelen-hykefuneralhome.com)

Arlene was born July 24, 1921 to Raymond and Laura (Corkins) Walker in Conde, SD. She married Ruben William Mowry on October 14, 1938 in Rockham, SD. They spent the first night of their married life at Ruben's parents' home and were woken in the middle of the night to an old fashioned chivaree. They were blessed with three children: Laurel, Lanny and Robin. They farmed in the Rockham area and later moved to Redfield. They also lived in Oregon for a short time. Arlene worked various places before starting a long time position as a cook at Redfield High School. Arlene was a long time member of the Messiah Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed watching soaps, reading, traveling, winning at pinochle and especially spending time with her family.

Arlene is survived by her daughter, Laurel (Bud) McDowell of Frederick, SD and son Lanny Mowry of Denver, CO; her grandchildren: Lisa (Craig) Jaspersen, Lance McDowell, Lynette (Jerry) Swedberg, Sean (Linda) Cairns, and Amy (Chris) Gazdik. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren: Chelsa (Bryan), Cameron, Aaron, Kady, Duncan, Logan, Elle, Lauren, Caitlin and Keira and great great-grandson, Canyon.

She is preceded in death by her parents, one sister Mazie Gately, her husband Ruben, granddaughter Leah and daughter Robin Chivers-Wilson.
