Obituary

Donald "Don" and Arlis Bacon will have their funerals together on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Northwestern Community Church in Mellette, SD. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. and their memorial service will begin at 11:00 a.m.  Pastor Douglas W. Duncan will officiate.  Burial, following the service, will be at the Northville Fairview Cemetery in Northville, SD.  After the burial, lunch and fellowship will take place in the church hall.  Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield has been entrusted with arrangements (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Arlis Hulda Bacon, age 91, of Aberdeen, SD passed away peacefully on October 26, 2021, at St. Luke's Hospital.

Arlis was born on September 27, 1930, in Aberdeen, SD to Henry and Anna (Hoegermeier) Kramer and grew up on a farm near Northville, SD, and attended country school in that area. Their family later moved to Northville where Arlis attended and graduated from Northville High School.

She attended nursing training at St. Luke's Hospital and received her degree in nursing and Registered Nurse license. Arlis taught LPN students at Dakota Midland Hospital in Aberdeen and later was employed at James Valley Nursing Home in Redfield.

Arlis married Don Bacon on May 27, 1951, in Redfield. After Don returned from his service in Korea, they purchased a farm near Northville where they raised their family and lived until they recently moved to Aberdeen.

Faith and family were most important to Arlis. She was an active member of the Northville and Northwestern Methodist Churches.

Arlis enjoyed singing, playing keyboard, and dancing. She loved fishing trips and camping with her family.  She was a great cook and loved preparing meals for family gatherings.  After they retired, they spent winters in Arizona.

Arlis is survived by her husband Don of Aberdeen; sons: Terry (Gail) Bacon and Randy (Michelle) Bacon of Aberdeen, and Kent (Lynn) Bacon of Smyrna, DE; and daughter Darlene Bacon of Florence, AZ.   She is also survived by nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, and brother.
