Obituary

Arthur Gustav Solheim, 95, of Frankfort, SD, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2017 at the Redfield Care and Rehabilitation Center in Redfield, SD.  Art has been cremated and his memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 at Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield.  Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate.  Lunch and a time of fellowship will follow the service at the Frankfort Community Center in Frankfort.  Private burial will take place at a later date at the Spink County Poor Farm Cemetery in rural Frankfort.

Arthur Gustav Solheim was born October 5, 1922, in Redfield to Jakob and Silla (Solheim) Solheim.  He was born and raised on a farm northeast of Redfield during the Depression.  Arthur attended Redfield City Grade School, Brink Country School and Redfield High School.

On February 16, 1946, Arthur married Shirley Mae Compton in Watertown, SD.  During their marriage, they lived in the Redfield and Frankfort areas.

He was a proud farmer for his entire life.  Beginning in 1945 and for the next 35 years, he did custom harvesting throughout the Midwest states.  Hunting, fishing, camping, and cards were favorite pastimes.  He will be remembered as a great "joke teller."

Arthur is survived by his wife, Shirley of Frankfort; his children:  Rita (Joe) Jacquot of Martin, SD; William John (Marsha) Solheim of Redfield; Celia "Kathy" (Gary) Rayhill of Martin; and Jeffery (Tyrrie) Solheim of Blair, NE.  He is also survived by ten grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild and his brother, John, of Redfield.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
