Berwyn Lee "Bugs" or "BL" Baird, 80, of Frankfort, SD died in Frankfort of natural causes on June 4, 2016. Per Bug's wishes, he has donated his body to the University of South Dakota Medical School and did not wish to have any services. Arrangements have been entrusted to Thelen-Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield, SD (www.thelen-Hykefuneralhome.com).
Berwyn was born January 16, 1936 in Redfield, SD to Paul and Alice Baird of Frankfort, SD. He was a graduate of Frankfort High School, class of 1954. He attended Jamestown College in ND for 2 years and then entered the US Air Force for 4 years of service. After his honorable discharge form the USAF, he graduated from Northern State College. He also worked for the City of Redfield for a number of years as sexton for the Greenlawn Cemetery and on the city street department. He retired to Frankfort where he loved to garden and attend any events of the Frankfort community. Bugs also had an interest in history and spent many hours compiling history for the family and Frankfort community.
Preceding him in death were his parents, brother Stanley, sister Judy Hurst, nephew James Baird, sisters-in-law Shirley Baird and Jean Stanley Baird and brother-in-law Al Meile.
He is survived by brother John (Marguerite) Baird of Asheville, NC; sisters Jeanette Meile of Hartford, SD; Dona Baird of Chico, CA; Paula (Dave) Lorenz of Abilene, TX and brother-in-law George Hurst of Sioux Falls, SD. Also nieces and nephews Kevin (Dar) Baird, Janet Baird, Kerry (Dawn) Baird, Dennis (Kathy) Baird, Steven (Judy) Baird and Robert (Susan) Baird; Judi (Larry) Hedrick, Jacque Meile, Mark (Toni) Meile, Mike Meile, Jane (Brett) Bradfield, Sam Millar, Jill (George) Seiler, Micki (Brian) Krier; Janelle Hurst, Bill Hurst, Jeff (Sandi) Hurst, Michelle (Greg) Hoekman; Sara (Steve) Labrecque, Luke (Dawn) Lorenz and Kate Lorenz. He will be especially missed by his nieces and nephews who he was close to and enjoyed following their activities and families.
