Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" Evelyn Hausvik, 83, of Redfield, SD, formerly of Turton, died Thursday, February 5, 2009 at Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Her funeral will be Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. After a time for lunch and fellowship, burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen, SD. Visitation will be Monday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Betty was born December 25, 1925 in Walnut Grove, MN to Peter and Anna (Benson) Gronhoy. Shortly after her birth, Betty and her family, moved to Bismarck, ND. When Betty was six years old, she and her brothers and sisters, moved to Wilton and lived with an aunt due to their mother's death. When she was fourteen years old she moved to Bismarck and began working for Dr. Rosenburg. She continued to work for Dr. Rosenburg all through high school and Nurses College. She followed Dr. Rosenburg to Aberdeen, and began working as a nurse at St. Luke's Hospital. While working at St. Luke's she met the love of her life, Marvin Hausvik, while he was a patient. Betty married Marvin Hausvik on June 29, 1952. Betty and Marvin farmed in the Turton and Conde area for many years. Betty worked as a nurse in Webster, Conde and Redfield. Betty worked as a "special" at the hospital in Redfield, for several years. In 1968, she quit nursing to raise her family and help Marvin with the farming. In 1989, they moved to Redfield. Marvin passed away on May 29, 2008.

Betty was a past member of Bethany Lutheran Church and a member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, American Legion Auxiliary, Eastern Star and American Cancer Society. She was active as a 4-H leader and played bridge in two or three different bridge clubs. She will be remembered as a great cook.

Betty is survived by her son Robert (Vicki) Hausvik of Dell Rapids, SD; her daughter Janet (Raymond) Logid of Circle Pines, MN; five grandchildren: Ryan and Nick Hausvik, Melissa Izenberg, John and Jacob Logid and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Gertrude Collins of Brainerd, MN and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, and two brothers: Selmer and Ernest Gronhoy two sisters: Irene Blotsky and Pearl Krein and an infant daughter.
