Obituary

Betty Ione Marlow, 86, of Redfield, SD, died Thursday, August 12, 2010 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.

Her funeral will be Monday, August 16, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at First Congregational UCC Church in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman will officiate.

Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery.

Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home, with the family present to accept condolences from 4-6:00 p.m. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)

Betty Ione Anderson was born April 7, 1924 to George and Minnie (Miller) Anderson at the family home in Hand County. She attended 1 - 8 grades in Hand County and attended high school in Redfield. She worked a short time in Miller, SD prior to her marriage in 1944. She married Howard Edwin Marlow on February 9, 1944 at Wheaton Church in Hand County. They farmed all of their married life in Hand County. Betty was a homemaker and helpmate to Howard on the farm until his death on their 30th anniversary, February 9, 1974.
Betty and her son Edward worked the farm with the help from wonderful, caring neighbors until June 1982, She then moved to Tulare to help her sister Hilda care for their aging mother. She was known for her tasty carmel rolls and baking goodies and taking them to shut in neighbors and friends.

She was a member of Wheaton Church from her confirmation until the closure of Wheaton Church in 2004. She then became a member of the Redfield First Congregational United Church of Christ. She worked for a short time at James Valley Nursing Home and enjoyed visiting and caring for residents.

She is survived by two children Barbara (Gary) Ellsworth of Hillsboro, OR and Edward (Julia) Marlow of Sweetwater, TN, six grandchildren: Karla Boone, Tim Ellsworth, Hillsboro, OR.; Evan, Hope, Alexa and Jaxon Marlow of Sweetwater, TN; Seven great grandchildren Alyssa and Robert Thompson, Jade and Olivia Boone, Madison and Braxtyn Ellsworth and Hunter Marlow; a brother Carroll Anderson, sister Hilda Wilson and brothers-in-law Walt Taylor, Dale (Virginia) Marlow; sisters-in-law Viola Hardie, Mildred Ratigan, Elinor Jandel and Donna Johnsen and also Iva Jean Nels who lived in the Anderson family home for several years plus many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by: her husband Howard, parents George and Minnie, sister: Beatrice, and sister Nyla Lou and a brother Kenneth both in infancy, one grandson Tyler Marlow, sister-in-law Floreine Anderson, six brothers-in-law: Clarence Wilson, James Hardie, Vern Marlow, Maurice Ratigan, Leo Jandel and Marvin Johnsen.

Betty will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.
