Obituary

Betty Joyce (Barrie) Schlotter Salveson, 84, of Huron, SD, passed away Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Southridge Healthcare in Sioux Falls.  Her funeral will be Tuesday, December 11, 2018, at 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield.  Reverend Marty Toepke-Floyd will officiate.  Burial will follow at the Frankfort Cemetery.  Visitation will be Tuesday, December 11, 2018 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Betty Joyce Barrie was born December 2, 1933 in Turton, SD to Oscar Barrie and Viola (Boynton) Barrie.   She was raised on the family farm by Turton.  Betty attended Barrie Country School, then Turton Public School through the 8th grade.  She then attended and graduated from Bath High School.

In November 1951, Betty married William "Bill" Schlotter, and they lived on the family farm near Doland, SD.  To this union two sons and two daughters were born, twins Paul and Paula, Bill and Betta Joy.

Betty worked for Spink County ASCS office in Redfield as a Program Specialist for 30 years, retiring from there in 1992.  After her retirement she was a book keeper for several businesses and she was a courier.

After the loss of her husband Bill in 1976, Betty married Ted Salveson in May 1978 and moved to Huron, SD.

She and Ted had a Coin Machine Trader Newsletter.  Betty was a member of the Sons of Norway, Diners Club and NARFE (National Association of Retired Federal Employees).  She loved spending time at her cabin at Lake Byron with her family while playing games and watching The Food Network.

Betty is survived by her sister Marge (Bob) Noonan, Huron, SD, two grandchildren; Shayna (Dan) Reece, Baltic, SD, Billy (Xanady) Schlotter, Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandchildren Will, Ella, Gavin, Genevieve, Jemma and Felicity. Son-in-law Don Muellenberg and daughter-in-law Penny Schlotter, sister-in-law Marilyn Barrie, and step son Butch Salveson

Preceding her in death were her husbands, William "Bill" Schlotter, and Ted Salveson, her infant son Paul and infant daughter Paula, her son Bill Schlotter and daughter Betta Joy Muellenberg, her brother Loyal Barrie and sister Norma Place and her step daughter Frances "Sissy" Birch.
