Obituary

Betty Jo (Delrymple) Stahl, 80, of Mellette, passed away quietly at home early morning Tuesday, January 8, 2008 with family by her side. Her funeral will be Friday, January 11, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Northwestern United Methodist Church in Mellette. Reverend Jon Damaska will officiate. Burial will be in the Mellette Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Betty was born in Kokomo, Indiana on December 27, 1927 to John and Anna Delrymple. In 1943, she met Ruben Stahl before he was stationed overseas during World War II. Upon his return, they married on January 3, 1946.

Betty was active throughout her life, serving with the American Legion Auxiliary for 54 years along with the Northwestern Methodist Church and the Northwest Spink Senior Citizens. She was an avid bridge player and bowler. She spent many years as a member of the local bridge clubs and mixed league bowling. She worked at several places throughout her life but her favorites were the South Dakota Developmental Center and at home raising her children and visiting her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years Ruben of Mellette, one daughter Rhonda (Max) Borchard, Northville, SD; three sons, James (Cindy) Stahl, Oswega, IL; Steve Stahl, Seattle, WA; Don (Linda) Stahl, Mellette; one sister, Norma Jean Smith, Montrose, MI; Eight grandchildren, Renee (George) Lombard, Maple Valley, WA; Doug (Danielle) Stahl, Mellette; Janelle Stahl, Fargo, ND; Kayla (Kris) Sparling, Aberdeen, SD, Ben and Betsey Borchard, Northville, SD; Jennifer and Nicholas Stahl, Oswega, IL and four great grandchildren; Dawson and Emily Lombard, Maple Valley, WA and Kyle and Kade Stahl, Mellette; special family friends Jim Dee, Seattle, WA, and Jared Ladbury, Fargo, ND; several nieces and nephews and many great friends.

Her parents, one brother, and two sisters preceded her in death.
