Obituary

Beverlee "Bev" Mae Corkins, 88, of Redfield, SD passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield.  Her funeral will be 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 at the Eastern Star Chapel in Redfield.  Reverend Tammy Toepke-Floyd will officiate.  Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., at the Eastern Star Home Chapel.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com).

Beverlee Mae Shevlin was born on May 2, 1930 in Aberdeen, SD, to Charley and Alice (Roundy) Shevlin.  She attended Redfield Public Schools and graduated in 1948.

On December 9, 1954, she married Walter "Spark" Corkins in Redfield, SD.  They resided in Redfield and to this union three children were born:  Darla, Carla and Kevin.

Bev worked at First National Bank prior to becoming the Spink County Director of Equalization from 1959 until her retirement in 1990.

Bev enjoyed shopping, especially at Herberger's, reading, crossword puzzles, attending her grandchildren's events and spending time at her cabin at Cottonwood lake.  She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, the Redfield American Legion Auxiliary and the Spink County Courthouse Retiree Group.

She was a beautiful person who was passionate about her family, and a very devoted and protective mother.

Bev is survived by her children: Darla (Steven) Jessen, Norfolk, NE; Carla (George) Schade, Redfield, SD; and Kevin (Kerry) Corkins, Redfield, SD; grandchildren: Kristel and Wayne, Anthony and Leah, Kandace and Ben, Andrea and Heath, Lance and Keri, Landon and Kallie, Ashley and Koby; great-grandchildren; Keldon, Kysa, Wesley, Willow, Autumn, Ashton, Colton, Kynslee, Gabe, Harper, Beck and another great-grandchild expected in June.  Survivors also include her brother Duane (Mary) Shevlin, sister-in-law Pat Shevlin, her many nieces and nephews and her Eastern Star family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband Spark, brothers Donnie Shevlin and Bob Shevlin and her sister Marthann Kimlicka.
