Carl E. Anderson, 94, of Redfield, died Thursday, November 08, 2012 at Golden Living Center in Redfield. Mass of Christian Burial will be Tuesday, November 13th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Redfield. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a scriptural wake service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Carl was born November 22, 1917 to Hannah and William Anderson in Swea City, IA. He attended school in Orient. Carl served 22 months in Europe during World War II. He served as a corporal in Battery B-195th anti-aircraft Battalion. After his discharge, he returned to the family farm. He spent a short time as a chauffeur in Minneapolis.
On January 21, 1952, he married Patricia Dvorak. God gave them seven children: Fr. Edwin, Spooner, Wis.; Sr. Jacinta (Marcia) Baltic, Conn; Fr. Terence, Huron; Janice (Steve) Konkler, Oakes, ND; Bryon (Kathi), Redfield; Darrel (Joy) Mitchell, SD and Trixie (Chad ) Schlechter, Orient. Carl farmed the family farm south east of Redfield. Carl retired and moved to Redfield in 1978 where he and Patty resided until he went into the Golden Living Nursing Home in 2011.
Carl enjoyed playing cards, pool and listening to Polka music. He also enjoyed watching football, baseball and car racing. You could find Carl tinkering around the garage and in the yard. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carl is survived by his wife and seven children; four sisters, Eleanor Frankenstein, Martha Hawkinson, Helen Eckman, and Ruth Jessen; one brother, Lennart Anderson, sixteen grandchildren: Catina Zuelch, Lucia (Dewey) Elmbald, Brandi (Jason) Hansen, Julia (Tony) Novak, Laura Hahn, and Shanna Zuelch; Jennipher (Tom) Van Horn, Aaron (Jane) Konkler, Danielle Lapher; Tynan (Nathan Marlow) Anderson, Jordan and Jarret Anderson; Xavier Black; Xavier, Jacob and Hannah Schlechter; and twenty-one great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Paul, Philip and Wallace.
