It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carrie Buss on June 26, 2026, at the age of 46. Carrie passed away peacefully at Avantara Redfield – South Dakota, under hospice care, surrounded by those who loved her dearly.

Born on January 12, 1980, in Huron, South Dakota, Carrie was the beloved daughter of Cherie Buss and the late Bill Buss. Her life was a tapestry of love, kindness, and creativity, woven with threads that touched everyone she met.

Carrie spent her formative years in Bellflower, California, where she graduated from Somerset High School. Driven by a passion for culinary arts, she ventured to Georgia to attend culinary school, nurturing her love for cooking-something that would bring joy to her family and friends throughout her life. Her “Georgia Family” was very special to her.

Carrie found fulfillment in the work at the Dakota Convenience Store in Doland, South Dakota, where her warm smile and generous spirit made her a cherished colleague and friend to many. Her colleagues remember her not just as a co-worker but as a beacon of positivity and compassion.

A devoted mother, Carrie is survived by her two sons, Joe and Justin, who were the lights of her life. She is also survived by her loving mother, Cherie, her sister Marie and her brother-in-law Troy Hofer, and her adored nephews, Oliver and Eli. Cherished by several aunts, uncles, cousins, and her special friend, Lee, Carrie leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter that will forever be remembered.

Preceding her in death are her grandparents, Curt and Kay Buss, Lyle Michels, and Shirley Woodham, and her father, Bill Buss. Though they have passed, their spirits remained a guiding force in Carrie’s life.

Carrie’s hobbies reflected her artistic nature and zest for life. She enjoyed watching cooking shows, drawing inspiration from culinary masters, and spent countless joyful hours crafting and making jewelry. Her creations were not just pieces of art but expressions of her generous heart and creative soul.

Known and loved by all who knew her, Carrie was a lover, not a fighter. Her gentle nature and caring spirit endeared her to everyone she met. She had a unique ability to light up a room with her presence, leaving a lasting impression on all who crossed her path.

In accordance with her wishes, a private graveside ceremony at Grace Cemetery in Rockham, South Dakota, will be held to honor Carrie’s memory. You may make a donation, celebrating the kindness and generosity she exemplified every day of her life.
