Carrie Florence Janes, 99, of Redfield, SD died Thursday, February 21, 2008 at the Eastern Star Home in Redfield, SD.
Her funeral will be held on Monday, February, 25, 2008 at 2:000 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Pastor Stephen Perry will officiate.
Burial will be in Grace Cemetery in Rockham. Visitation will be Sunday, from 2-8:00 p.m. with her family present from 6-8:00 pm at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield.(www.thelenfuneralhome.com)
Carrie Kessell was born May 20, 1908 in St. Michael, MN to Robert and Carrie (Hennings) Kessell. Her mother died when she was very young and she was raised by her grandmother, Charlotte Hennings. She graduated from the 8th grade at Westby, Sheridan County, Montana and graduated in 1926 from high school at Elgin, ND. She graduated from the State Teachers College in Dickinson, ND and taught school in North Dakota. She married Solomon Leischner on December 14, 1929 at Elgin, ND. He served in the United States Army and was killed in action on Luzon in the Philippines in 1945. She married Leonard Janes on March 16, 1950 at Rockham, SD. She taught school in the Rockham area for several years and she and her husband farmed. In 1960 they moved to Hot Springs where they resided for eighteen years. In 1978 they moved to Redfield. She was a member of the United Methodist Churches in Rockham, Hot Springs and Redfield and was active in the United Methodist Women and taught Sunday School for many years. She and her husband did a great deal of traveling. Leonard passed away on April 6, 1995. She enjoyed playing the piano, fishing, knitting, crocheting and quilting. She moved to the Eastern Star Home in Redfield in 2007.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents and both husbands.
She is survived by her niece Jane (Franz) Cartner, Redfield; nephews Wendell (Linda) Walton, Bloomington, MN; and Paul (Loree) Walton, Hull, IA; as well as many great nieces and nephews.
