Chuck was born January 13, 1940, to Henry and Agnes (Mathiesen) Haugen in Watertown, SD. He was raised on a farm near Lily, SD, and graduated from Webster High School in 1958. He married Wanda Tompkins of Highmore on March 11, 1967, and to this union three daughters were born: Natalie (Bob) Goss, Galesburg, IL, Barbra Jo Haugen, St. Paul, MN, and Carrie (Mark) McCloskey, Sioux Falls, SD.
Chuck served in the US Army and fulfilled his draft commitment in Germany. Upon return to the states, he completed school for auto body repair in North Dakota.
As new parents, Chuck and Wanda moved to Redfield after his purchase of a local business. He owned Chuck's Body Shop and Repair, where he performed autobody repair, painting, glass installation, and many wrecker calls. After thirty-seven years, he hung up his name-badge shirts and retired his Red Wing boots. The business still remains on the corner of US Hwy 281 and 6th Avenue after 56 years.
Chuck enjoyed many years of fishing, hunting, camping, snowmobiling, and restoring antique John Deere tractors. On any given weekend you could find Chuck and Wanda at auctions or collector shows in pursuit of their favorite treasures. Sundays were for cheering on and agonizing over the Vikings and more recently, the Chiefs.
Preceded in death by his father, mother, brother Vern Haugen, sister Beatrice (Haugen) Luciani, and wife Wanda.
Grandfather to Brad, Brett and Kathryn Goss, Katie, Meagan, Charlie, and Ryan McCloskey, and uncle to many nieces and a nephew.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the James Valley Threshing Association, 100 1st Street, Andover, SD, 57422.
