Charles "Charlie" Richard Gabriel was born August 16, 1950 in Faulkton, SD to John and Florence (Chase) Gabriel. He graduated from Faulkton High School and then worked in the Redfield Ford garage for about eight years as a mechanic and detailer. He worked a short time at the South Dakota Developmental Center in Redfield before moving to Denver, CO. While in Colorado, he worked with his brother, Roger, as a carpenter. He returned to Redfield in 1983 and worked again at the South Dakota Developmental Center in maintenance and as a groundskeeper. He also worked as a bartender at several establishments in Redfield. It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Sue Solheim.
Charlie enjoyed being a hobby farmer in the Miranda area raising farm animals. He went to many auction and rummage sales and loved to play cards, especially pitch. Charlie and Sue enjoyed spending time together.
Charlie will be remembered for his quiet and caring personality, his ability to fix anything and at times, for being a little fussy when it came to keeping things clean and in their place. Most of all, he was always willing to do anything to help others. Charlie's favorite saying was, "I'm not here for a long time; just a good time".
Charlie is survived by his life partner of more than 30 years, Sue Solheim of Redfield and her son, Kevin Solheim of Watertown, SD ; his sister Yvonne Gabriel of Cresbard, SD; his "granddaughter", McKenzie (Eric) Van Wagner and their daughter, Avery of Redfield; numerous nieces and nephews; several cousins and his special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: LeRoy and Roger; two sisters: Sharon Grabinski and Judy Moliter; Sue's son Kraig Solheim; one niece and three nephews.
