Cody J. Fortin, 16, of Redfield, SD, died Wednesday, May 27, 2009 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield after an accidental drowning. His funeral will be Saturday, May 30, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at the Messiah Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Peter M. Utecht will officiate. After a time for lunch and fellowship, the burial will be in Prairie Valley Cemetery in Raymond, SD. Visitation will be Friday from 2-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Cody was born January 11, 1993 in Aberdeen to Steve Morris and Deborah Lambert. After the death of his mother in a vehicle accident, Cody and his sister Amanda were adopted by Mike and Donna (Lambert) Fortin. Cody had just finished his sophomore year at Redfield High School and was enjoying the summer doing what he liked best, which was fishing. He also enjoyed hunting, motorcycling and spending time with his brother and sisters and nieces and nephews. Cody was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan.
Cody is survived by his mother Donna Fortin of Redfield; his father Mike Fortin of Winner, SD; his sisters: Amanda Fortin of Redfield; and Melissa (Ryan Understock) Fortin of Redfield and their children Rylan and Maisie; and his brother Michael (Michelle) Fortin of Mitchell, SD and their daughter Mallory; his biological father Steve Morris; his maternal grandparents Richard and Helen Lambert of Redfield; paternal grandparents Pat (Arnold) Arneson and Maynard and Joyce Fortin of Bowdle. He is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Dennis Lambert of Aberdeen; Daniel (Diane) Lambert of Watertown; Darla (Ed) Scheer of Reedsville, NC; Dawn Weyh of Sioux Falls, SD; Joe (Leslie) Lambert of Redfield; James (Holly) Lambert of Redfield; Kim (Waylan) Huber of Warner; Deb (Gordy) Schuchhardt of Warner and Dawn (Garret) Hall of Warner; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Deborah, grandmother Clara Bebo and his uncle Eldon Lambert.
