Cynthia Barton, 90, of Redfield, SD died Thursday, February 07, 2008 at Golden Living Center in Redfield. Her funeral will be Monday, February 11, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. After a time for fellowship and lunch the burial will be in the Mellette Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 2-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 4-6:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Cynthia was born June 7, 1917 in Donnelly, MN to Cyril Raymond and Jessie (Crutcher) Burt. She grew up in Mellette and attended Mellette School. Cynthia married James Barton on September 28, 1945 in Aberdeen, SD. They raised their five daughters in Mellette and she worked as a dietary aide at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield for several years. They moved to Redfield in 1989. She was a Foster Grandparent for eight years, working at Rainbow Daycare Center. She thoroughly enjoyed the little children that she helped care for.
Cynthia was a lifetime member of the Mellette American Legion Auxiliary and served as president for four years. She enjoyed puzzles, crossword puzzles, crocheting, embroidering and the card game Skip-Bo.
Cynthia is survived by her five daughters: Villa (Allen) Moeller of Redfield; Pauline Schoniger of Redfield; Dorothy (David) Hahn of LaMirada, CA; Linda (Gary) Brunn of Redfield; and Donna Palmer of Redfield; fourteen grandchildren, twenty-one great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Marcia (Clayton) Loesch of Union Grove, WI and her sisters-in law: June Burt of Arkansas; Jane Burt of Watertown, SD; Bonnie Burt of Elkhorn, WI; Bea Grandpre of Aberdeen, SD; and Edith Gange of Aberdeen, SD and one brother-in-law Fred Stern of Aberdeen, SD.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James in 1994, five brothers and four sisters.
