Daniel "Pete" Akin, 61, of Redfield, SD, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen, SD.
Pete's memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. on Friday, April 14, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield. Reverend Keith C. Kraft and Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord will co-officiate. Inurnment will follow the service at Greenlawn Cemetery in Redfield. After the committal service, refreshments will be served in the church hall.
The memorial service will be live-streamed on the funeral home's website below Pete's obituary. Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield (www.hykefuneralhome.com) has been entrusted with arrangements.
Daniel "Pete" Akin was born to Lewis and Delores (Lovold) Akin on July 4, 1961, in Redfield, SD. He grew up on the Akin Family Farm in Lodi Township. He attended Redfield Public Schools and graduated from Mitchell Technical College with a welding degree.
Pete married Sally Leach and together, they raised their son Jerome.
Pete loved motorcycling and snowmobiling with his brother Buck and the Fuss boys. He raised cats, dogs, and rabbits on the farm. He would be found many days just tinkering in the Tinery Shed. He continued his love for motorcycles as an adult and built three trikes. He loved to fish, had a deep faith in God, and just enjoyed great conversations with everyone he met. He will be missed.
Pete is survived by his son Jerome (Samantha) Akin and grandson Abel, all of Aberdeen; brother Jeffery "Buck" (Diane) Akin of Redfield; and sisters: Victoria Schmidt of Webster, SD, Janet (Terry) Kegler of Redfield, and Sheila Roeber of Redfield. He will also be missed by his nephews and nieces: Marty, Johnny, Viki De, Brian, Jamie, Shelby, Travis, Lucas, Sarah, and Jacob; as well as many great-nephews and nieces, and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his parents Lewis and Delores Akin, nephews Tommy and Tim Campbell, and friend Robert Fuss.
