Daniel "Dan" Dean Phillips, 81, of Redfield, SD, passed away Friday, January 13, 2023, at Avantara Redfield.
Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 19, at Hyke Funeral Home in Redfield. His funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Melissa Rowenhorst officiating. Following the funeral, refreshments will be served at Leo's Good Food in Redfield. Dan's committal service will follow at 3:45 p.m. at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Frankfort, SD.

Daniel was born to John and Melba (Chase) Phillips in Redfield on July 20, 1941. He was raised and educated in California. He attended John Burroughs High School and graduated in 1959. He attended Los Angeles Valley College for two years and then attended UCLA for one year.
For 27 years, Dan built neon signs at Electrical Advertising Inc. in Burbank, CA. He lived in California from 1941 to 1998 before moving back to Redfield.
Dan was the Treasurer of Frankfort's Mt. Hope Cemetery Association for many years. He was a member of the Fisher Grove Country Club and spent many afternoons golfing. He was an avid baseball fan and followed the Teeners, Legion, and Amateur teams. He also cheered for the Redfield High School Pheasant boys' and girls' sports teams. Dan enjoyed having coffee with his friends at the bakery and Appel Oil in Redfield, as well as the community center in Frankfort.
Dan is survived by his sister Lori (Andrew) Perry, of Louisville, KY; stepsister Sharon Horton of Sun Valley, CA; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Janet Phillips; stepfather Melvin Dutch Spaethe; and stepbrother James Spaethe.
