Darlene J. Dykstra, 73, of Redfield, died Thursday, November 18, 2010 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen. Her funeral will be Tuesday, November 23th at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend Stephen Perry will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. In lieu of flowers, Darlene's family prefers memorials directed to the Clint and Darlene Dykstra scholarship fund. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Darlene Joy Siebrands was born October 16, 1937 to Daniel and Ida (Gronewald) Siebrands at Willow Lake, SD. Darlene graduated from Willow Lake High School and attended St. Johns Nursing School in Huron, SD. She worked as a nurse in Deadwood before moving to Redfield. In December of 1962, Darlene married Clint Dykstra and they had three children. Darlene worked as nurse for over forty years in the Redfield community, including Community Memorial Hospital, Redfield Clinic and Redfield Public School.
She was active in the United Methodist Church, PEO, Community Concert Association and Spink County Crisis Center. Darlene was full of life and loved helping others.
Darlene is survived by her children; Lou Ann (Joe) Jensen of Arlington, SD; Linda (Stefan) Horne of Hillsborough, NC, and Garritt Dykstra of Doland; four grandchildren Kristi and Anne Jensen, and Hayden and Jennifer Horne, two sisters: Ann (Jerry) Bennet of O'Fallon, IL; and Ettie Sowienski of Knoxville, IA; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Dykstra, her parents, one sister, a nephew, two sisters-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
