Obituary

Daryl "Dutch" Jones, 85, of Frankfort, SD, died May 23, 2012, at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield, SD.

A celebration of his life is planned for July 2 beginning at 2:00 at the Frankfort United Methodist Church. Cremains burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

He was born October 4, 1926, near Emerson, Nebraska. Son of Philip and Fannie (Bird) Jones, Dutch was the 10th of 11 children. In 1930 the family settled in Frankfort, where Dutch lived for most of his life.

Dutch served in the U.S. Navy from 1943 through 1946 and was stationed aboard the troop ship U.S.S. Highlands. He was proud to be part of four generations of Jones men a€" along with his father, his son, and his son's son a€" to volunteer for U.S. military service. He was a life member of the American Legion and VFW.

After WWII, Dutch returned to Frankfort to work with his father's painting business and later was a self-employed painter. Early in his career he worked for Nelson's Construction and he retired as a carpenter from SDDC a€" Redfield.
Dutch was very community minded, helping out neighbors and donating eggs for church pancake suppers. He was involved with the Frankfort Cemetery Association and served on the Frankfort Volunteer Fire Department and City Council. He was also a member of the Mayflower Society.

He received his greatest satisfaction in life from his family. He is survived by his wife Delila; children Diane and Ken Meier of Bryan, Texas; Dan of Coal Valley, Illinois; and DebDale of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota; two grandchildren, Nycole Wells (Byars) of Mishawaka, Indiana, and Nathan of Davenport, Iowa; four great-grandchildren a€" Sawyer and Grayson Wells and Alexx and Dakota Jones; sisters-in-law Dolores Jones and Rae Boudreau; brother-in-law Lyman Waldner; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Dutch was preceded in death by his parents, and all ten siblings a€" Bird, Ione, Vivian, Ima Bickness, Don, Glenn, Ruby Avery, Harry, Marion Robertson, and Phyllis Reed a€" as well as his daughter-in-law, Sandra Jones.
