Obituary

David "Dave" Joseph Wanner, 50, of Hitchcock, SD, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family after a battle with brain cancer.  His life will be remembered and celebrated at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2020, at the Hitchcock United Methodist Church in Hitchcock.  Reverend Steven Behrens will officiate. The service will be Live-Streamed on the church's Facebook page. Please follow current social distancing guidelines and masks will be available at the church.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Hyke Funeral Home of Redfield, SD.  (www.hykefuneralhome.com)

David Joseph Wanner was born on August 16, 1969, in Elgin, ND, to Roger W. Wanner and Garnetta (Schulz) Sennett.  He spent his childhood and youth on the family farm, north of Mott, ND.   Dave attended elementary and high school at Mott Public School.  After graduation, he attended college at Bismarck State and earned a degree in welding.

He married JonnyK Seamands, the love of his life, on September 18, 1998, in Hettinger, ND, at the Hettinger Lutheran Church.  Together they had two sons, Caileb Jon and Kale Joseph Wanner.  Dave worked for Roger Hirsch and Archibald Ranch until they moved to Hitchcock, SD, in 2005.  Dave worked for his brother-in-law Dan Enander until September of 2018, at which time he started working for Terry Wieting.

Dave loved being outdoors and animals.  He enjoyed throwing darts and was extremely good at it.  He threw on a dart league in Hitchcock for many years.  Dave's greatest love was his boys.  He loved watching all the sports Caileb participated in, especially football.  He was present at all games cheering on his son, and the Patriots.  Dave was a big part of Kale's life, and he loved taking him to and from school.  Kale's smile and excitement always warmed his heart and made his day.  Dave was a hard worker and did everything he possibly could to be a good provider for his family.  His smile, laugh, and wittiness would light up a room.  He loved spending time with his family and friends.

Dave is survived by his wife JonnyK (Seamands) Wanner; sons: Caileb Jon and Kale Joseph Wanner; all of Hitchcock, SD; mother Garnetta (Jerry) Sennett of Minot, ND; sister Julie (Mark) Laughlin of New Philadelphia, OH; brothers: Brad Wanner of Lisbon, ND and Greg (Ruth) Wanner, of Bismarck, ND; father-in-law and mother-in-law Jon and Alice Seamands of Hettinger, ND; sisters-in-law: Jodi (Shane) Timm, of Hettinger, ND and Jennifer (Dan) Enander of Frankfort, SD.  He is also survived by his nieces:  Justine Watson; Katie Wanner; Lexi, Brynlee, and Bria Wanner; Julie Miller; and Baylee and Kenidee Enander and nephews: Lane and Tristan Laughlin; Blake Wanner; Nick, Alan, and David Timm; and Devin Enander.

Dave is preceded in death by his father Roger W. Wanner; grandparents: Joe and Violet Wanner and Peter P. and Katherine L. Schulz; uncles: Peter N. Schulz and Donald Wanner; cousin Gary Wanner; nephew Tyler Laughlin and niece Taylor Laughlin.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to "Pray for Gray Foundation" (PO Box 446, Fargo, ND 58107) in Dave's honor.
