David Carl "Swaney" Swanson, 57, of Frankfort, SD, died Saturday, October 18, 2014 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. His funeral will be Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Redfield. Reverend Brian Wasmoen will officiate. After the services at the church, his body will be cremated and his ashes buried at a later date. David was born August 17, 1957 in Redfield to Carl and Ruth (Hukari) Swanson. He graduated from Redfield High School in 1975. After graduation, he started farming and ranching on the family farm, Swanson Farms, near Frankfort. David married Kathi Hurst on September 27, 1980. They were blessed with five children. David loved country life, family and friends. He called loved ones daily to talk. He was a simple man who cherished feeding and tending to cattle. He enjoyed hunting deer and pheasants and occasionally fishing. He loved working on the land and driving to check cattle. There was never enough time in the day to get all the chores done. He spent time grilling food and inviting people for conversations. He was a dedicated farmer and a helpful neighbor.

David is survived by his wife Kathi; their children: Natasha (Scott) Swanson of Ferney, SD; Amanda (Dominic) Evans of Redfield; Andrew (Noelle) Swanson of Frankfort; Samantha (Cole) Swanson-O'Daniel and Anthony (Kayla) Swanson of Frankfort. He is also survived by his mother Ruth Swanson of Redfield, his brothers: Duane of Stockholm, Sweden; Kenny (Penny) Swanson of Redfield, Wesley of Frankfort; and his sister Karen (Derrick) Walz of Bowdle, SD; his brothers-in-law: Jim and Joe Hurst of Frankfort; and his sisters-in-law: Kris (JB) Barrie of Turton and Karol (Bob) Artz of Ashton. He was a proud grandpa to Katryn Davee Evans, Peyton Swaney O'Daniel, Spencer James Evans and Chansey Ray O'Daniel. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father Carl and Kathi's parents Charles and Mary Hurst.
