Dean A. Frankenstein, 61, of Redfield, SD died Friday, June 20, 2008 while hiking at Harney Peak near Custer, SD. His funeral will be Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Redfield. Reverend J. Edwin Coates will officiate. After the service there will be full military rites in the circle drive and lunch to follow. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Dean was born June 29, 1946 in Redfield, SD to Levi and Geraldine (Frase) Frankenstein. He grew up in Redfield and graduated from Redfield High School in 1964. He graduated from National College in Rapid City. Dean served in the United States Army at Bad Kreuznach, Germany from 1967-1970. He has been a Certified Public Accountant since 1980. Dean started civil service as a base-level auditor at Ellsworth AFB in 1973 and has served as auditor in Hawaii, Germany, England, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Georgia, Panama, Iceland and The Azores. He finished his career as Chief in the Atlantic Area Audit Office in 2002.
During his career, Dean enjoyed traveling, he enjoyed running marathons and biking all over the world including Russia and England. He spent much of his retired life in Hawaii and traveling the continental United States.
Dean is survived by his father Levi of Redfield, his sister Linda (Larry) Pearson of Bennington, NE; two nephews: Tim (April) Pearson and their children Levi and Max and Brad (Kellie) Pearson and one niece Lori (Geoff) Hodges and their children Mason and Liliana and his traveling companion Mimi Emery of Honolulu, HI.
He was preceded in death by his mother Geraldine in 2000.
