Raymond Dean Palmer, 80, of Redfield, SD died June 8, 2011 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield. Dean was cremated and his graveside service will be Monday, June 13, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. at the Mellette Cemetery. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)
Dean was born July 2, 1930 in Aberdeen, SD to Raymond and Doris (Hamilton) Palmer. Dean served in the United States Army before his honorable discharge. Throughout his life Dean owned and operated several successful businesses in Aberdeen, Doland, Huron, Mellette and Redfield. He operated a resort at Bass Beach on Pickerel Lake and a concession stand at the State Fair in Huron.
Dean served on the Mellette Bank Board for many years.
He loved his family and the outdoors and nature in general.
Dean is survived by his children: Chad Palmer of Redfield; Rick Palmer of Redfield and Teresa (Lonny) Brandell of Rosholt, SD. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren and two on the way and his sister Lavonne Gilkison of Seal Beach, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Douglas and his sister and brother-in-law Ann and Harold Jackson.
