Obituary

Delbert "Dellie" Fey, 85, of Groton, SD, formerly of Turton, SD, died Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Avera St. Lukes Hospital in Aberdeen. His funeral will be Friday, June 29, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Doland. Reverend Kris Larson will officiate. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens in Aberdeen. Visitation will be Thursday from 1-8:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Delbert Keith Fey was born May 3, 1927, the youngest of six children to Thomas and Elva (Wallar) Fey. He was born near Turton and lived his whole life in the same township, before moving to Groton in 2000. He attended the first three years of grade school in Turton, finishing his grade school at the country school in Sumner Township, three miles west of Turton. He attended Turton High School graduating in 1945. Dellie helped his Dad run a threshing crew in the early years of his life.

Dellie married Sarah Jean Hoffman of Doland (the love of his life), October 10, 1948, in DeSmet, SD. They lived their whole working life on the T.E. Fey farm near Turton later buying and becoming the owners themselves. He was a grain farmer and raised livestock. He loved living on the farm and the new calves being born in the spring and the planting and harvesting of the crops. They retired and moved to Groton in the fall of 2000.

Grateful for having him as their Dad were Valarie Vogel and Delbert "Kasey" Fey. Dellie enjoyed his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren very much and was involved in their lives, activities and spending time with them.

He was active in the community being on the Sumner Township board for over thirty-five years, served as a field representative at the ASCS office, belonged to the Eastern Spink Lions Club, Turton Volunteer Fire Department, co-chaired the Turton Centennial Parade in 1986 and a member of the Fisher Grove Country Club.

Dellie attended the Congregational Church in Turton until its closing and was active in getting the church into the Historical Registry. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Doland.

Dellie is survived by his daughter Valarie (Terry) Vogel, grandchildren: Allan (Becky) Vogel, Thomas (Susan) Vogel, Jeffrey Vogel, Allison (Jeffery) Heitmann; great grandchildren: Dylan, Lincoln and Chase Vogel, Emma and Owen Vogel, Blaine and Rhett Heitmann. His son Delbert K "Kasey" Fey, grandchildren: Kara (Shawn) Pugh, Thomas (Holly) Fey, and Jessica Fey (Jack Schroeder-fiancAC.); great grandchildren: Charlie and Maxwell Pugh, and Henry Fey.

Proceeding Dellie in death was his wife Sarah, parents Thomas and Elva, brothers: Rollie and Howard Fey, sisters: Florence Thomas, Selma James and Alice Fey and brothers-in-law: Claude Thomas and Berywn James.
