Delores Viola Akin, 82, of Redfield, SD, died Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at Golden Living Center in Redfield, SD.
Her funeral will be held Monday, February 21, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Redfield. Reverend Tim Fugman and Pastor Lorah Houser Jankord will officiate.
Burial will be in the Greenlawn Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Monday from 9-12:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home, and then one hour prior to the service at the church. (www.thelenfuneralhome.com)
Delores was born June 24, 1928 at Cottonwood Lake to Ole and Tena (Nelson) Lovold. She attended Redfield Public School and married Lewis Akin on June 04, 1957. Together they farmed near Redfield for many years. Lewis passed away in August of 1974. Delores worked in the kitchen of Golden Living Center for 16 yrs.
She enjoyed gardening, woodworking, ceramics, sewing, playing cards, dancing and playing pool. She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, the American Legion and VFW Auxileries.
Delores is survived by her children: Vicki Schmidt of Webster, SD, Jeffery "Buck" (Diane) Akin of Redfield, Janet(Terry) Kegler of Redfield, Daniel "Pete" Akin of Redfield and Sheila Roeber of Redfield. She is also survived by grandchildren: Marty, Johnny, Viki De, Tim, Brian, Jamie, Shelby, Jerome, Jacob, Sarah, Lucas, Travis, Lora and Kris. She is also survived by her great grandchildren: Josh, Jenny, Amanda, Danielle, Kaelen, Adalyn, Olivia, Addyson, Levi, Mesa, Lane and Mattie. Great-great grandchildren: Devon, Ryley, Piper She is alos survived by sisters Wilma Nelson of Redfield and Rose Reed of Rapid City, SD and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lewis, daughter Linda, and a grandson Tommy. She was also preceded in death by her five brothers Andrew, John, Lloyd, Merlin and Fritz along with two sisters Marie and Arlene
