Deloris
Avery
February 23, 1930 – April 18, 2016
Deloris Evelyn Avery passed away peacefully on April 18th at the Eastern Star Home with family by her side. She was born on February 23, 1930 to Truman and Sarah Walton in rural Bonilla, South Dakota. She attended Boltman School and graduated from Tulare High School in 1947. She married Kenneth Avery on May 25, 1951. Four children were born to this union, Wayne, Barbara, Pamela and Martin.
Deloris and Ken lived in several places early in their marriage from Tulare to Sioux Falls back to Tulare and then on to Seattle, Washington where their first two children were born. They then returned to South Dakota where Deloris worked side by side with her husband in their auto glass and repair business and began doing auto and home upholstery.
Deloris enjoyed cooking, baking, crocheting, reading, and playing cards, but most of all spending time with family and friends. Many memories were created when having afternoon coffee and playing cards with friends and neighbors. She was actively involved in the United Methodist Church, and a member of United Methodist Women, and Ruth Circle. She was also part of a Friendship Club for many years.
Deloris impacted many lives with her unconditional love and generous support.
Deloris is survived by her husband, Ken, her children, Wayne (Shari Budahl) Avery of Brookings, Barbara (Bob) Avery-Sterud of Sioux Falls, Martin (Jessica) Avery of Fargo, ND, grandchildren, Robin Avery of Sioux Falls, Amber Groft of Redfield, Travis (Teresa) Holm of Sioux Falls, Addison Avery of Sioux Falls, Evin and Rider Avery both of Fargo, four step grandchildren, Michelle (Ivan) Hulstein of Pelican Lake, MN, Jaci (Jason) VanDenTop, Canton, Janelle (Jeff) Sehr, Canton, Scott (Marit) Sterud, Pipestone, MN, and great grandchildren, Mackenzie and Erica Groft, Avery and Tresten Holm, Ryan (Abby) Alfson, Nathan Alfson, Brandan (Stephanie) Alfson, Anthony (Emily) Johnson, Alyssa (Josh) Miller , Derek VanDenTop, Cecelia VanDenTop, Nick and Jordan Sehr, Oliver and Elliott Sterud. She is also survived by her sister, Laura Fliehe, of Aberdeen, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Pamela, five sisters, four brothers, and her parents.
Visitation will be on Sunday, April 24th, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. with family present and a prayer service at 5:00 in the Chapel at Eastern Star Home in Redfield. Funeral Services will be at the United Methodist Church in Redfield at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 25th.
