Denise B. Battest, 89, of Doland, SD, died Friday, April 27, 2012 at Community Memorial Hospital in Redfield.

Denise was cremated and her memorial service will be Wednesday, May 2, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. Reverend Kris Larson and Reverend Harold Loewen will officiate.

Cremains burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Frankfort. www.thelenfuneralhome.com

Denise was born in Brouay, France on August 22, 1922, to Albert and Angele (Lacour) Ecolsse.
She married Raymond W. Battest on March 23, 1946 in Paris, France while Raymond was serving in the United States Army during WWII. Denise and Ray farmed northwest of Doland until 1995 when they retired and moved into Doland.

Denise was a member of the United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women, Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed baking and was well known for her pies. She also enjoyed gardening, playing bingo, crocheting, embroidery and holding new born babies.

Denise is survived by her son Dwight of Doland; four brothers-in-law: Lloyd (Dee) Battest of Doland; Harold Battest of Eureka, MT; Richard (Alice) Battest of Beulah, ND and Norman (Janice) Battest of Barstow, CA; and her sister-in-law Delores Ellis of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband in September, 2011 and her brother.
