Dick was born July 27, 1926 in Miller, SD to W. P. and Mary (Aesoph) Edgar. He married Mary Angela Gruenwald on December 28, 1954 and they had recently celebrated sixty years of marriage. Dick served in the United States Army Air Force from 1945-1946 in the Pacific Theatre. In 1953, Dick and his brother, Doug, purchased their first registered Angus female, "Barbara Ann H from Lester Hurlburt and Sons. This purchase was the foundation of Edgar Brothers Angus. Dick was most proud of the fact that his love of Angus cattle will continue to live on through his family. In 2009, Dick was selected by the SD Angus Association as the Breeder of the Year. In 2012, Dick and Doug were selected as Stockman of the Year at the Black Hills Stock Show. The commercial heifer show at the stock show was one of the things he most looked forward to each year. He loved people as much as he loved his cattle. One of his favorite things was spending time at various sale barns. He was still in his tractor feeding cattle two days before he entered the hospital. His wit and wise cracks will be missed by many. He had a great love for his entire family.
