Donald L. Schlotter, 86, of Redfield, SD, died Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Golden Living Center in Redfield. His funeral will be Friday, March 26, 2010 at 10:30 a.m. at the Wesleyan Church in Redfield. Reverend Josh Kendrick will officiate. Burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery with military rites. Visitation will be Thursday from 3-8:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at Thelen Funeral Home in Redfield. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Don was born September 18, 1923, near Frankfort, SD to William and Aleida (DeHann) Schlotter. He attended school in Tulare before serving in the United States Army from 1944-1945. Don farmed for several years and married Verna Johnson. He worked at South Dakota Developmental Center-Redfield for twenty-five years. Don married Gleva Jenner on November 24, 1972 in Redfield.
Don enjoyed fixing and building anything that needed repair. He enjoyed playing aggravation marbles and watching the Price is Right and the Minnesota Twins. He was a member of Clay Kiser American Legion Post #92.
Don is survived by his wife Gleva of Redfield, his children: Wade (Catheleen) Schlotter of Cheney, WA; Deb Moser of Rapid City, SD; Ken (Bette) Jenner of Watertown, SD; Allen (Jody) Jenner of Watertown; Diane (Larry) Merchant of Watertown; Barb (Fred Rondell) Heffernan of Watertown; seventeen grandchildren and thirty great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Ruth Jones, nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his twin sister Dorothy Boehler, five brothers: Virgil, Jack, Charles, Robert and Billy, daughter Sheryl Schurch and son Douglas Jenner.
