Donald E. Weinreis, 82, of Redfield, SD and formerly of Fort Collins, CO died Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Golden Living Center in Redfield.
Donald has been cremated and his Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church in Mellette. Reverend Christopher Hughes and Reverend William Osborn will officiate. www.thelenfuneralhome.com
Donald was born May 4, 1926 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Walter and Madeline Weinreis. Don farmed a good share of his life. In 1946 he married Anna Faye Hixon, they had three children. Don enjoyed his farm life and hunting with his brothers.
In 1960 he married Theresa Dammel, later they moved to Colorado where Don became a carpenter building homes and doing finishing work. After he retired he did a lot of gardening and took great pride in his big tomatoes. Don also liked to listen to orchestral music as his uncle Jerry Burke once played with the Lawrence Welk band.
Don is survived by his children Gloria (Randall) Hokenson, Tavares, FL, Maurice (Leslie) Weinreis, Morrison Colorado, Jan (Janis) Weinreis, Buffalo Minnesota, Sonya Weinreis, Fort Collins Colorado, and three step daughters, Connie, Patty, and Charlotte and their families. He also had 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Don is also survived by 5 brothers, Joe (Velma) Weinreis, Jerry (Beulah) Weinreis, LaVerne (Jane) Weinreis, Dick (Claudine) Weinreis, John Weinreis, and 4 sisters, Kathleen (Dave) Davis, Jeanette Graves, Helen Oberle, and Maureen (Dale) Audorff. Also, several Nieces and Nephews and special friend Don Ford.
He was preceded in death by his wife Anna Faye, his parents, and his second wife Theresa.
